Doctors highlight benefits of walking as form of exercise

Some medical practitioners in Benin City have highlighted the importance of long distance walk to the human health.

Patience Osarogiuwa reports that the doctors stressed that the benefits derivable from walking long distance are enormous, physically and mentally.

Commenting on the health benefits of walking long distances some medical practitioners, Doctor Solomon Ikpefan and doctor Wilson Imogan said one of the major causes of non-communicable diseases and some health problems by most people are lack of exercises and other physical activities including walking.

They emphasized that walking long distances helps to improve the overall fitness of the human body physically and mentally, get rid of anxiety, improve the cardiovascular strength, shedding unwanted fat and water weight, burns calories, prevent chronic infections, cleanse the lungs, build strong bones and others.

They advised residents of Benin City to walk and enjoy healthier life.

Meanwhile pedestrians in Benin City have continued to walk long distances after disengaging from a bus terminus vehicle to get to their destinations.
Some pedestrians lamented the pain they are made to face despite the health benefits.

Some others who see nothing wrong with the long distance walking said it is a form of exercise when trying to access other motor parks to get to their destinations.

Recently, Edo State Government through the committee on Waste Management Board and Edo State Clean Up Committee ban all illegal motor parks around Oba Ovoranmwen Square to bring sanity to the city center.
