The need for stakeholders to make conscious efforts towards the eradication of trafficking and drug abuse in Edo State and the country was the focus of a seminar organised by Edo State Branch of the International Federation of Women Lawyers FIDA,as part of activities to mark the 2017 FIDA Week.
Aigboje ikhuoria reports that the event held at the Bishop Kelly Pastoral Center on Airport Road Benin city was attended by stakeholders drawn from various fields of human endeavor Including representatives of wife of the state governor and the Chief Judge of Edo State .Welcoming guests and keynote speakers to the seminar and launch of a proposed office block of the International Federation of women lawyers edo State branch, chairperson FIDA Edo State barrister Maria Edeko said FIDA Edo State decided to take on a sensitization and awareness campaign on drug Abuse and trafficking in other to eradicate the increased and alarming rate of drug abuse by young people in the Society
Wife of the state governor of Edo State Mrs Betsy Obaseki who was represented by the wife of the deputy governor Mrs Maryann Shaibu who commended the initiative of FIDA said the theme of the 2017 FIDA Week is apt giving the high rate of addiction of young people in drugs especially in tertiary institutions
Other key note speakers including representative of the chief Judge of Edo State justice Esohe Ikponmwen , Anthony General of the state professor Yinka Omogbe, wife of speaker Edo State house of Assembly Mrs Betty Okonobo amongst others corroborated the views of the First Lady of Edo State and mother of the day.
Some students guests and members of FIDA spoke on the success of the event .
There were lectures on the effect of drug abuse in the society, the role of security agencies in combating drug trafficking and drug abuse

The twenty seventeen FIDA Week with the theme drug Abuse a tragedy for our community was attended by senior legal practitioners, religious and traditional leaders, officials of the National drug law Enforcement agency , medical practitioners, market women, youths and school pupils among others
