Edo State chapter of International Federation of Women Lawyers have advocated for the need for all hands to be on deck towards the eradication of Drug Abuse and trafficking in the state.
The women Lawyers in a sensitization rally to mark the twenty seventeen FIDA Week went through major streets and Parks in Benin City to educate the people on the inherent risks and dangers in the abuse of drugs.
The international federation of women lawyers, Edo State lead by its chairperson Barrister Maria Edeko in the company of officials of the National Drug and Law Enforcement Agency lead by the assistant state commander of the NDLEA walked through Sapele road, forestry, ugbague and made a brief stop at Lagos street, Oba market and Oba Akenzua Cultural center to educate the people on the dangers of drug abuse using local dialects.
The women lawyers and officials of the NDLEA told some of the traders and youths who left their business to listen to them that one cannot live a good life when his addicted to drugs.
The chairperson international Federation of Women Lawyers barrister Maria Edeko in an interview said FIDA in its 2017 week decided to take the theme drug Abuse a tragedy for our community given the alarming rate of young people’s involvement in the abuse of drugs
The assistant commander NDLEA Mr Usman Suleiman commended FIDA for the initiative, Some lawyers and members of the Public comments on how the rally has impacted them
The 2017 FIDA Week with the theme Drug Abuse, A Tragedy for Our Community will also feature a seminar on the 14th of July 2017 at Bishop Kelly pastoral center at 9:30 AM
