The decision of the National Council on Education to reintroduce History as a subject in both primary and secondary schools curriculum in the country has been commended by some historians.
Adesuwa Lato reports that the respondents said the reintroduction of history in the school’s curriculum was long overdue.
The lecturers from the History and International Studies department, University of Benin who commended on the reintroduction of History as a subject in primary and secondary schools curriculum said the importance of history cannot be over emphasized.
They described the decision as a step in the right direction, as history helps to enhance nation building, promote unity and encourage critical thinking.
Some respondents said they have been clamoring for the reintroduction of history as a subject schools.
The Chief Executive of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, Professor Josiah Ajiboye said the decision was taken to enhance the education sector in the country.
