The need for medical practitioners in Edo state to sustain their humanitarian disposition towards patients despite the recession in Nigeria has been stressed.
The advice was contained in a lecture at the 2017 Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of NMA in Edo state.
In a welcome address, the chairman, Nigeria Medical Association Edo state branch, Doctor Emmanuel Osaigbovo said the annual general meeting is a period of critical evaluation of the activities of the Association in the past one year, and solicited the assistance of government in monitoring the health sector.
In a goodwill message, Edo state governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki represented by the state commissioner for health Doctor David Osifo said Edo state government is passionate about the health of Edo people and welfare of Medical Practitioners.
Delivery a lecture on the theme of the AGM, Ethical values in contemporary medical practice: The role of recession, the guest speaker Doctor Omokhoa Adeleye urged doctors to avoid medical malpractice which according to him could negligence on the part of a hospital, Doctors or other Medical Practitioners through an act of causing injury to a patient.
The guest speaker encourage medical practitioners to ensure that the ethics of medicine remain unchanged, despite the economic recession in Nigeria.
There were goodwill messages from the National President of NMA Doctor Miko Ogirima, Chief Medical Director, Irrual Specialist Teaching Hospital Professor S.A. Okogbem and others.
