76 persons test positive in Edo State

The Commissioner for Health in Edo state, Doctor Patrick Okundia, says seventy six out of one hundred and seventy five suspected cases of Lassa fever tested positive to the epidemic.

Doctor Okundia made this known in Benin City today, during a Lassa fever committee meeting, chaired by the State Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, and representative of the World Health Organization.

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, called on all hospitals across the eighteen Local Government Areas of the state to refer any suspected cases to Irrua Specialist Teaching hospital and isolation centres.

The State Coordinator of World Health Organization, Mrs. Faith Ireye, revealed that contact tracing in the state is the best in the country.

She called on the people to practice simple hand washing to avert contracting the disease.
