APC Lawmakers Storm Out Of Plenary Over Debate On $9.3M Cash

Proceedings in the House of Representatives today nearly turned rowdy as All Progressives Congress lawmakers stormed out of plenary where debate on the nine million dollars smuggled into South Africa by some Nigerians supposedly for purchase of arms was scheduled to take place.

The decision of the APC lawmakers to stage a walk out was because the motion on the issue brought before the House by the Deputy Minority Leader, Ismaila Kawu, was stopped by some PDP lawmakers.

The APC lawmakers described the development as scandalous, disgraceful and appalling.

While moving the motion under matters of urgent national importance, Kawu had prayed the House to investigate the matter through its committees of Defence and Aviation.

After the motion was seconded by Jumoke Okoya- Thomas, Kawu was not allowed to debate the issue, nor was any other person allowed to contribute as the Deputy Speaker, Emeka Ihedioha, said it would be better to refer the matter to a committee of the House.

This caused a big row and the Deputy Speaker eventually called for a vote where majority of the lawmakers voted against a debate.

Proceedings were held up for over ten minutes following allegations of bribery against lawmakers that kicked against debate on the matter.
