The ongoing local government election in Delta State turned violent in the early hours of Saturday with some hoodlums setting ablaze the Ughelli office of the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission.
The hoodlums reportedly accused the commission of hijacking election materials for the polls by distributing materials to the strongholds of rival political party.
There were deluge of complaints of irregularities by the various political parties, including allegation that all the key adhoc staff of DSIEC were recruited mainly from one political party.
Meanwhile, Delta State Independent Electoral Commission has announced fifty-seven councilors of the Peoples Democratic Party in Saturday’s local government elections returned unopposed.
This followed the failure of the main opposition party, All Progressives Congress and other parties to field candidates for the local government elections in the state.
Chairman of the Commission, Chief Mike Ogbodu in a press statement said the fifty-seven PDP councilors are being returned unopposed as no other candidates are in contention with them.
