Mr Samuel Alabi, National President, Federation of Tourism Association of Nigeria (FTAN), on Friday called on the Federal Government to harness the potentialities in the tourism industry for national development.
He told Newsmen in Abuja that the country had enormous tourism potentialities that would ensure development of the rural areas and preserve the environment.
“Tourism helps to preserve the environment. It opens up the rural areas to development, promotes the positive image of the country and helps to alleviate poverty.
“It triggers rapid development and sustainability of basic infrastructures,” Alabi said.
He said the association was planning an investors’ forum and exhibition in Abuja to showcase the potentialities of the sector.
According to him, the forum is aimed at strengthening the relationship between the tourism investors and their service providers as well as building new tourism frontiers through the creation of accessible funds.
Alabi said that the FCT had rich human capital and natural resources that could make it the preferred tourism destination of Nigeria if properly developed.
He said that tourism was vital to the economic growth of the country, adding that the development of tourism in the FCT would optimize conference tourism.
