A bill for an act to make provision for sexual offences, their definition, prevention and the protection of all persons from harm, unlawful sexual acts and for purposes connected therewith today passed second reading in the senate.
Mover of the motion Senator Chris Anyanwu representing Imo East Senatorial district said there is an urgent and pressing need to review the extant laws on sexual offences contained in the criminal code and penal code.
She noted that cases of gang rape, child pornography and prostitution, sexual harassment among others is on the increase and must be checked.
Other lawmakers also lend their voice in support of the bill.
The bill provides for compulsory documentation, supervision of sexual offenders and the medical treatment for victims.
It was first introduced in the 6th senate where it successfully scaled through first and second reading
