Church building collapse: AKSG declared two days of mourning

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel, has declared Sunday, December eleven and Monday, December twelve, 2016, as days of mourning in honour of the victims of the collapse of the Reigners Bible Church building in Uyo.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Ekerete Udoh, said that all flags are to be flown half-mast within the state during the days of mourning.

Governor Emmanuel has also ordered the immediate arrest of the contractor that handled the construction of the collapsed church building.

The two-day mourning period would be rounded off with a solemn assembly at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Uyo, on Monday December twelve, 2016 by prompt.

The Government urged all citizens and friends of the state to continue to pray for the speedy recovery of those injured in this incident.

Although Governor Emmanuel had escaped unhurt, many people lost their lives while several others sustained various degrees of injuries.
