Contributions of Esama of Benin to national security highlighted at 84 birthday lecture

As part of activities for the eighty-fourth birthday of the Esama of Benin and Honourable Chancellor and Chairman Board of Regents, Igbinedion University, Okada, Sir, Chief, Doctor Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, a birthday lecture was held in his honour at Igbinedion University, Okada.

The lecture titled: Strategic Partnership for National Security: Extending the Frontiers Private Sector Participation Model, was delivered by a former Inspector General of Police, Doctor Solomon Arase.

Guest lecturer , Dr Solomon Arase who advocated a paradigm shift in the nations security apparatus said the Esama of Benin Sir chief Dr. Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion’s foray into various ventures has contributed to national security through creation of jobs in all sectors.

Dr Solomon Arase noted that by enlisting himself into the Nigerian police in 1959 , providing counsel on security challenges in Edo, Delta states and globally as the honorary Romanian Consul , building and donation of police stations among similar contributions are numerous examples of chief Igbinedion’ model of how the private sector can be an effective tool in national security.

Declaring the Birthday lecture open, Vice Chancellor Igbinedion University Okada Prof. Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye said the annual birthday lecture is to honour and commend the Chancellor for his foresight and vision of establishing the institution and other social services that have empowered many Nigerians .

Prof. Ezemonye said in view of the prevailing security challenges in the country,the lecture will provide the panacea for the nations security challenges.

The lecture elicited a standing ovation in honor of the celebrant ,Sir Chief Dr Gabriel Igbinedion while the institution
presented the guest lecturer with a special plaque .

Women from Okada community who attended the Birthday lecture appreciated the Esama this way.
