Edo State Government has suspended work on the ultra-modern building at the central Hospital, Benin which collapsed on Monday.
When the news crew visited the project site at the Central Hospital, Benin, the premises was deserted as no work was going on there. The gate to the project site was also firmly locked.
It was learnt that the construction workers vacated the site on the orders of the state government, following the collapse of part of the building still under construction on Monday.
Confirming the decision of the state government to suspend work on the project, the Commissioner for Works, Frances Evbuomwan said “experts were being awaited to evaluate the extent of damage on the building and to determine whether the affected part can still continue to be part of the building”.
Mr. Evbuomwan also confirms the death of the Project Manager who was trapped under the rubbles immediately after the collapse of the structure.
On Monday, a part of the ongoing project at the central hospital, Benin collapsed, trapping seven construction workers out of whom six were successfully rescued and taken to the hospital.
