EDO: INEC holds stakeholders meeting on strategic plan

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Edo State has held a stakeholders meeting on Strategic Programme of Action for 2012 -2016.

Addressing participants, Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Baritor Kpagih said the meeting was to interact with stakeholders on efforts being made by INEC to provide a road map for action towards 2015 general elections and beyond.

In a paper presentation on Strategic Plan of Action 2012 -2016, the INEC Head of Operations, Edo State, Mr. Ade Adewusi said strategic plan of action of the commission will provide electoral operations, system and infrastructure to support delivery of free and fair elections also to improve voter education, training and research among others.

Also speaking, the Director, National Orientation Agency, Edo State, Mrs. Magdalene Umunnah said the issue of conducting free, fair and credible election is not the responsibility of the electoral body alone but of all stakeholders.

The stakeholders meeting also featured an interactive session where important issues such as late arrival of electoral materials to polling units, multiple voter’s registrations, late minute accreditation of journalists among others.

High point of the meeting was the unveiling of the National Strategic Plan of INEC 2012 – 2016 by the Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner.

The stakeholders meeting was attended by nine political parties, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Edo State Police Command, DSP Agberebi Egbuson, the General Manager, ITV/Radio Benin, Senior Elder Ogboide Uwumwose represented by Assistant General Manager, News and Current Affairs, Mr. Abiodun Mudasiru and representatives of other agencies.
