State Security Service (SSS), Edo State Command has expressed commitment to the war against violent crimes, particularly kidnapping.
Parading the 11 suspects which include seven male and four female, The State Director of SSS, Mr. Bakori Tukur said some of the gang that killed a security operative in his command, Amen Ogbeide-Ihama few weeks ago were also arrested during the onslaught against kidnappers. He said the joint military operation also rescued a pastor who was in the custody of the kidnappers.
In his remark, Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole thanked security operatives for absolute commitment to the battle against kidnappers and assured of his resolve to sustain the war.
While acknowledging that citizens have a duty to monitor activities of those in their vicinity, Comrade Oshiomhole insisted that they must complement security operatives with useful information, just as they must resist the temptation of paying ransom to kidnappers.
The male suspects, who confessed to the crime, narrated their level of involvement in the alleged cases of kidnapping while the female suspects, Chinwe Meloe, a staff of one of the new generation banks in Benin, and 27 year old Beatrice Actor, a graduate of the University of Benin, denied any involvement in the crime.
Items recovered from the suspects include cut to size guns and live cartridges.
