The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have recovered Sixty-five Million, Five Hundred and Forty-eight Thousand Naira from the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The monies comprising of eighty-one bundles of one thousand naira notes, ninety-seven bundles of five hundred naira notes and ninety-six pieces of five hundred naira notes were stacked in two fireproof safes in offices of the Head of Department Accounts and Cashier of the INEC.
The money is suspected to be forty percent illegally deducted on funds released to the INEC Zamfara office to cater to the rent of Canopies, Tables, and Chairs and movement of men and materials to Polling Units.
The raid followed a petition by one of the ad-hoc staff who alleged that the Adhoc INEC officials were denied payment of their six thousand naira movement allowances each for the two elections.
According to the complainant, while INEC in Zamfara allegedly paid its ad hoc staff nine thousand naira, others in states like Sokoto were paid twelve thousand naira.
