The Kano State Government has appointed the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Samaila Mera, as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of its Northwest University.
This is contained in a statement by Alhaji Halilu Dantiye, the Director of Press to Gov. Rabiu Kwankwaso in Kano.
It stated that the appointment took effect from January.
The statement quoted Kwankwaso as saying that Mera’s appointment was based on his proven integrity, patriotic disposition/commitment towards uplifting human conditions.
It added that it was also based on his relentless pursuit of initiatives that have direct bearing on the progress and well-being of the citizens.
“The governor implored the royal father to assist the government in attaining the set goal of enhancing quality training of skilled manpower in the various fields of study articulated for the university.”
The university is the second owned by the state government.
