The visit of the Oba of Benin, Omo N ‘ Oba N’ Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Oba Ewuare the Second afforded the people the opportunity to showcase the Rich cultural heritage of Esan land.
Edo Central Bureau Chief, Fedinard Osakue reports that different communities in Esan land showcased their tradition to the admiration of all.
The Benin Monarch, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare the second left his palace in Benin with a retinue of senior palace chiefs and some members of the royal family.
The arrival of the Oba of Benin at Eguare Primary School, Ekpoma, revenue of the ceremony was historic. Esan traditional rulers, leaders, sons and daughters of Esan land rolled out the drums to receive the August visitor.
In an address of welcome, the host chairman, Onojie of Ekpoma, HRH Barr. A. E. Abumere, said the Binis and Esan people are close, bonded in language, culture and affinity and urged the Oba of Benin to use his influence to also attract development to the area.
In a remark, the vice chairman, Edo Council of Traditional Rulers and Onojie of Opoji, HRH Ehidiamen the first presented numerous problems of the area and said they were pained over the suspension of the Onojie of Uromi and appealed to the Oba of Benin to intervene in the matter.
There were also remarks by Esan leaders and groups.
The Omo NÓba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare the second, Oba of Benin, who said he was alarmed by the grass root underdevelopment in the state, youth restiveness promised to look into all issues raised.
The Oba said he has set up a palm produce discount market, where the needy can access affordable items.
High points of the event were cultural performance and presentation of gifts to the Oba by the Onojie of Igueben, HRH Ehizojie Ailuojierior.
Some traditional rulers and leaders described the visit of the Oba of Benin to Esan land as a sign of good things to come, as according to them, the appearance of the sun and the moon at same time during the event speaks volume.
Other indigenes said they were delighted about the visit of the Oba of Benin to Esan land.
The Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Dr. Justin Okonoboh in a vote of thanks described the Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare the second, Oba of Benin, as a royal father with love and concern for his people and wished him a peaceful reign.
Among the senior chiefs in the Oba’s entourage were Esogban of Benin, Chief David Edebiri; the Esama of Benin, Sir, Chief Dr. Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion; the Eson of Benin, Chief Amos Osunbor and the Oliha of Benin, Chief Edionwere Oliha amongst others.
