Some Farmers in Ologbo Edo state protest alleged destruction of farm produce

Some farmers in Osemwingie camp, Ologbo community in Ikpoba-Okha local government area, Edo state, have protested alleged destruction of their farmland by Presco PLC on the approval of the Edo state ministry of Environment and Public Utilities.
Wellington Akodeja quotes the permanent secretary of the ministry of environment and public utilities, Major Lawrence Loye, retired as saying that the protesting farmers illegally encroached on government reserved forest.
Aggrieved farmers from Ologbo brandishing leaves and appealing to constituted authorities to come to their aid as their means of livelihood were being destroyed and taken over by Presco Oil on the approval of the Edo State Ministry of Environment.
The farmers alleged that they periodically pay to the ministry of environment for farming on the land and wondered why the turn around and their farm produce destroyed and land transferred to Presco.
They appealed to Edo state government and other relevant bodies to prevail on the situation and save them from being into the labour market.
Effort to obtain comments from the management of Presco oil were futile, however the permanent secretary, Ministry of Environment, Major Lawrence Loye, Retired labelled the protest and claim of the farmers as not only baseless but criminal.
Major Loye who spoke in a telephone interview said the land belongs to the state government stressing that the farmers encroached on the land without prior approval stressing that the land in question was allocated to presco oil to boost employment.
