FG Gives ASUU 7 Days Ultimatum to Call off Strike

The federal government of Nigeria has issued a 7 day ultimatum to the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU to call off strike or face sack and be replaced by fresh work force.
The Supervisory Minister for Education, Bar Nyesom Wike issued the threat in Abuja at a press briefing on the 5 months old strike embarked upon by ASUU
Wike said the government has reviewed the continuous closure of public universities as an attempt by ASUU to sabotage all efforts to address the industrial action.
The minister lamented that despite series of meetings with stakeholders and a 13 hour meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan, ASUU is giving new conditions for suspending the five months old strike.
He directed all vice chancellors to prepare to advertise job vacancies as any academic staff that fails to resume on or before the 4th of December, 2013 automatically ceases to be a staff of the institution.
