Flood kills 11 in Suleja, Niger State

Thirteen persons died while three others were confirmed missing when flood wreaked havoc in Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State.

Four persons were reported to be unconscious, and receiving treatment in Suleja General Hospital while seven houses at Nasarawa area of Suleja were submerged.

The Director General, Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Ibrahim Ahmed Inga said out of the eleven that died in the Suleja flood disaster, eight bodies have been recovered.

Inga said four areas in Suleja was badly affected by the Saturday flood in Suleja and ninety houses were destroyed with no fewer than 500 people displaced.

The Chairman of Suleja Local Government of Niger, Malam Abdullahi Maje confirmed recovery of bodies from the area.

While the District Police Officer in-charge of Suleja Division Mr. Mohammed Mohammed said his men had visited the flood scenes and are providing security so that hoodlums will not cart away victims’ property.
