The tie between the Benin Kingdom and Illale, Kwara State was strengthened at the traditional marriage between Doctor Oghomwen Oyinkan Igbinedion, daughter of two time governor of Edo State, Chief Lucky Igbinedion and her heartthrob, Doctor Oluwafemi Issac Fakayode.
Efosa Uwangue reports that the colourful ceremony was attended by dignitaries from within and outside Edo State, including representatives from the Palace of the Benin Monarch, led by the Oliha of Benin, Chief Edionwe Oliha.
Excerpts from the colourful traditional marriage ceremony as different cultural troupes displayed their prowess, which added spice to the much celebrated event.
The traditional marriage ceremony was one highly attended by dignitaries from all walks of life, a situation that suggested that it was one traditional marriage with a different.
Politicians from all political divide, representative from the revered Benin monarch led by the Oliha of Benin kingdom, Chief Edionwe Oliha, businessmen and women, various interest groups, among others turned out in a large number to identity with the Igbinedion’s and the fakayode’s on this auspicious occasion.
As demanded by the Benin custom, the bride family welcomed their guests with bountiful worth of gifts to officially show how hospitable the house of Igbinedion can be any time any day.
Having notified the bride’s family of their intention the traditional marriage rites commenced in earnest after the groom has been presented before the Igbinedion family of the Bride
Thereafter the groom oluwafemi was made to identify his bride oghomwen to the admiration of guests present which was greeted with much ecstasy.
Satisfied with all the enquiries and formalities needed for a successful traditional marriage according to Benin culture and tradition, families of the groom were permitted to pay the dowry in line with laid down norms of Benin people after which the bride Oghomwen Igbinedion was handed over to the groom oluwafemi fakayode amidst cheers from the guests and family members.
Grand Father of the bride and Esama of Benin, sir chief doctor Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion flanked by his amiable wife lady Cherry Igbinedion while congratulating the couple advised them to have love and respect for each other as marriage is all about understanding.
Father of the Bride and two time governor of Edo State, chief Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion also admonished the couple to see themselves not just as husband and wife but close friend as that is the prerequisite for a successful marriage.
Oghomwen and Olufemi are both medical doctors based in the united states of America.
The church wedding is billed to hold on Saturday at the central Baptist Church, Kings Square, Benin City.
