Gov. Ortom of Benue defects from APC to PDP

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has announced his defection from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The governor made the announcement during a meeting with elected local government chairmen and councilors at the Government House Makurdi.

Governor Ortom said the APC ward chairmen in the state are ready to join him in PDP.

He said he has forwarded the letter of his resignation from the All Progressives Congress to his ward chairman.

Earlier, Youths under the auspices of Coalition of Benue Youths today forced the driver of Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, to remove the flag of the ruling All Progressives Congress from his car.

The youths also prevented the governor from proceeding to Abuja, where it was understood that he was to attend a meeting with APC leadership, with the aim of settling the rift between him and APC leader in the state, George Akume.

The protesting youths brandished placards with various inscriptions.

Spokespersons for the protesting youths, Terrence Kuanum and Pastor Dave Ogbole advised the governor not to attend the meeting but to seek alternative platform for his re-election.

The youths threatened not to vote for him if he shuns their advice or attend the meeting.
