SENIOR Citizens Care Foundation (SCCF), a non-governmental organisation in Nigeria, will, tomorrow, present a senior citizen certificate to the matriarch of the Awolowo dynasty, Chief (Dr) Mrs HID Awolowo.
The initiative to recognise distinguished senior citizens, according to the chairman of SCCF, Ambassador Segun Olu-sola, was conceptualised to strengthen the care for senior citizens in the country.
It is also in line with a United Nations (UN) pronouncement that sets the attainment of the age of 60 years and above as a criterion for classification of people as senior citizens.
HID Awolowo will be presented with the certificate for 2012 at a brief ceremony in Ikenne Remo, Ogun State home of the Awolowos, at 2.00 p.m.
The presentation will be done by the board of directors of SCCF, led by Ambassador Olusola, Mr Jide Taiwo (secretary); Professor Felicia Adetoun Ogunseye, Dr Fredrick Fasehun and Senator Biyi Durojaiye.
In another development, Chief (Mrs) Awolowo, will, also tomorrow, be inaugurated as the grand patron of Ogun State Market Men and Women Association.
This was disclosed by the chairman, Planning Committee, Mrs Adesola Adebutu, at a press conference in Abeokuta.
She said the choice of Mama Awolowo was inspired by her contribution to the development of commerce in the state.
The Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun and his wife, Olufunso, will also be inaugurated as patron and matron of the association, at the event scheduled to take place at Ikenne-Remo.
