A renowned HIV virologist, Professor Ravi Gupta who made international headlines for his innovation against HIV in recent weeks and is currently at the centre has been unveiled as the guest of honour at the Bio Africa convention, to be held in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa in August 2019.
In March this year , Professor Gupta from University College London presented a ground breaking research in the search for a potential cure of HIV after stem cell transplantation in his patient, now known as the “London patient”.
Timothy Brown, a patient in Berlin,Germany made global headlines when scientists announced that he had been cured of HIV.
He is now rated the longest adult with HIV remission after a bone marrow transplant to treat cancer since 2008 .
The BIO Africa Convention scheduled from August 26th – 28th 2019 will showcase Africa’s Bio Technology innovations in the health, agriculture and industrial sectors is expected to bring business leaders, entrepreneurs, researchers, regulatory authorities and policy makers under one roof.
The platform also aims to reach the broader biotech community of Africa for the commercialization of local innovations and develop vaccines for HIV and other viral agents.
