The Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase has warned against the illegal sealing of telecommunication masts and base transceiver stations, saying perpetrators of the act will be prosecuted in line with the Cyber Crime, Prohibition and Prevention Act, 2015.
He also cautioned police formations to desist from being used in the illegal sealing of base stations, describing them as critical national infrastructure, which must be protected from damage and vandalisation.
The IG said this in Abuja at a workshop on the Cyber Crime Act, 2015 and the Criminal Justice Provisions Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria.
The police boss said the workshop was meant to sensitise the public and police officers on the illegal sealing of telecommunication masts.
Mr. Arase observed that telecom infrastructure is now more critical and vital to the socio-economic wellbeing of the nation, noting that as the society becomes more dependent on cyberspace, it is increasingly subjected to malicious attacks.
