Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared Mr. Emmanuel Aguariavwodo of the people’s Democratic Party, PDP, winner of the October delta central senatorial district bye-election.
The returning officer, Professor John Arubayi made the declaration this morning in Ughelli, delta state.
He said Mr. Aguariavwodo of the PDP polled two hundred and and sixty-three thousand and twenty-four votes to defeat eight other candidates.
Professor Arubayi said Mr. Otega Emerhor of All Progressive Congress, APC, scored twenty-nine thousand and seventy-five votes to emerge second, while Mr. Ede Dafinome of the Democratic Peoples’ Party, DPP, followed with twenty-nine thousand fifty-five votes.
The returning officer described the conduct of the bye-election as free and transparent and urged all the political parties that took part in the exercise to accept the result in good faith.
He commended the political parties and their agents for the peaceful conduct of the election.
The PDP won in all the eight local government area in the senatorial district.
The bye-election followed the death of Senator Pius Eweridoh of DPP on the thirty of June, 2013.
