INEC held Workshop on Voter’s Education in Benin

As part of efforts geared towards a credible election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), South-South Zonal workshop on voter’s education for principals and secondary school students took place today in Benin City.

The workshop tagged, “catching them young for democratic Governance” was to strategize on ways to promote democratic values in an electioneering process.

Addressing participants at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), South-South Zonal Workshop on Voters Education from principals and secondary school students, Chairman on the occasion, Professor Omo Omoruyi emphasized the significance of the right to vote in an electioneering process.

According to him, the essence of the exercise is to encourage a positive change towards voting process, adding that the right to vote and voting rightly gives one a voice in the election of those who are at the helms of affairs.

Also speaking, the INEC National Commissioner, Doctor Ishmad Igbani described the workshop as germane for actualizing true democracy. He stressed that the workshop, targeted at educated students on voting rights and processes will help inculcate in their minds true democratic values.

Responding, the facilitator of the workshop, Festus Omoruyi said the cardinal objective of the workshop is to sensitize the school communities on the importance of voter’s education an provide enlightenment on how to organize activities like establishing voter’s education clubs among other things.
