Blood donation has been described as a major means of saving lives, Edo State Commissioner for Health, Doctor David Osifo made the description today at the official flag off of free blood donation facilitated by the management of Central Hospital, Benin City.
Wellington Akodeja reports that the event which had other non-governmental organizations as partners, attracted the presence of top officials of Edo State Ministry of Health.

Dr Osifo said available statistics at various hospital in Nigeria has shown that most death that occurred is occasioned by lack of availability of blood at various blood banks to infuse patients who are in need of blood, while calling on residents to save lives by donating blood, Dr Osifo said the blood donated in the program will be given out free of charge for those in need.
The chief host, facilitator of the free blood donations and medical director of central hospital Benin Dr Philip ugbodaga said his quest for reducing matana mortality rates and saving lives generally at hospitals necessitated the gesture, maintaining that the exercise is going to be a continuous one.
The partners in the free blood donation exercise the executive director women health and action research centre Dr Wilson Imogan and the founder Tom Obaseki foundation Dr Tom Obaseki said there is no better way of saving life than giving back to the society the basic necessity that can ensure the healthy living of others hence their decision to partner with initiative
