The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has blamed poor quality of services by network providers on frequent vandalism of telecommunications infrastructure.
Mr. Okechukwu Itanyi, the Executive Commissioner, NCC’s Stakeholders’ Management Committee, stated this at the 55th Consumer Outreach Programme of the commission in Lokoja on Sunday.
Itanyi urged the Federal Government to declare the facilities as critical national assets which must enjoy maximum protection, adding that citizens must also protect the facilities.
He noted that investors could only be encouraged to do more business in the country if the business environment was secured from vandalism and destruction.
He added that with the vandalism of infrastructure, quality services would be difficult to achieve.
“Therefore, I urge you to protect telecom facilities from vandalism and stealing. Telecom infrastructure should rank among the critical ones which should enjoy priority attention and protection,” he said.
Itanyi appealed to the Federal Government to expedite action in making telecoms infrastructure critical national assets that should be accorded priority attention in terms of protection.
