NCS seeks Partnership To Fight Smuggling

The Area Comptroller of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara, Alhaji Usman Kankara said that the command was ready partner the Sultanate Council to fight smuggling.

He told newsmen in Sokoto that the partnership would enable the border communities to assist the NCS with vital information to apprehend smugglers.

Alhaji Kankara said officers of the command had been briefed on ways the partnership would work to ensure that smuggling was curtailed in the area.

Alhaji Kankara said that Imams and Pastors had also been contacted to educate their followers on the negative effects of smuggling on the economy.

He said that the approach would encourage the communities to provide useful information to assist the NCS to rid the area of smugglers.

He said that officers and men at the border posts had been placed on “red alert” to arrest and prosecute smugglers.

The comptroller solicited the cooperation of border communities to assist in the task ahead adding that several security measures were being adopted to prevent smuggling in the area.
