NDLEA commemorates Int’l Day against drug abuse

As Nigeria joins rest of the globe to mark the International Day against drug Abuse and illicit drug trafficking, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Edo State Command has held a sanitization lecture to curb the menace.

Adesuwa Lato reports that the event which held at Saidi Centre, Benin city was attended by students drawn from various schools in Edo state and NYSC members.

Edo State Commander, NDLEA, Mr. Obadiah Wakame who represented the chairman and Chief Executive NDLEA, Muhammed Mustapha said essence of the day is to commemorate the International day against Drug Abuse and illicit trafficking which is marked on June twenty six of every year.

He pointed out that the day was rescheduled due to the Sallah festivities and public holidays.

Mr. Wakawa said the event aims at creating awareness on the hazards of drug abuse and trafficking and also gives the opportunities for government officials, community leaders, news, parents, students and the public to help curb drug abuse.

He restated the organizations commitment towards reducing to the minimum drug abuse and trafficking in the society.

Guest lecturer, Doctor Olaniyi Aikawa, from the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric hospital, Uselu Bk also enumerated the dangers of drug abuse and illicit drug abuse while some student also commented on the significance of the day.

The event featured drama presentation, dance and quiz competition.

The theme for this year’s international day against drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking is listen first.
