The maiden annual first aid disaster management and leadership training camp Organised by the Nigerian Red Cross Society, South South Zone has opened in Benin City.
Kingsley Uchegbu reports that the one week camp tagged Edo 2017, featured the decoration of new patrons of the Society.
The seven days disaster and management leadership training camp is in line with the Nigerian Red Cross Act to constantly train and re-retrain its pool of volunteers from the six States in the south South zone.
Edo state Deputy Governor Comrade Philip Shaibu who was represented by his Chief of Staff Mr Kingsley Ehigiamusoe expressed the resolve of the Godwin Obaseki administration in the state to continue to support the Nigerian Red Cross Society and other humanitarian groups.
Chairman South South Zone of the Red Cross Prof. Ngim Ngim said the training which is the first in Nigeria is to encourage more volunteers to join the Red Cross and build the capacity of about four hundred participants from the south South zone.
While the Host and Edo state Chairman of the Red Cross society Mr Festus Alenkhe and a reprentative of the International Committee of the Red Cross Emmanuel Aguiyi said that the training will engender a renewed vigor in emergency disaster response.
Highpoint of the opening ceremony was the investiture of three new associate members who include the National President National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives Comrade Abdulrafiu Adeniji.
