Nigerian teachers joined their counterparts all over the world to celebrate the World Teachers Day in Abuja today.
As part of the activities to mark the events, awards were given to teachers to encourage them on the work done over the years.
One of the awardees is Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki who was honored as the Most Educationally Friendly Governor of the year for some strides recorded by his administration in education.
In attendance were the representatives of President Muhammadu Buhari, Mr. Abubakar Malami, Minister of State for Education, Professor Emeka Nwajiuba, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Education, and the President of the Nigerian Union of Teachers among several others.
World Teachers’ Day, also known as International Teachers Day, is celebrated annually across the globe on October 5.
The theme for this year’s celebration is Young Teachers: The future of the Profession is aimed at proffering ideas to attract and keep young persons to the profession.
