Nigerians join rest of the globe to mark Ash Wednesday

Christians in Benin City especially Catholics joined the world over to mark the twenty eighteen Ash Wednesday.

Aigboje Ikhuoria reports that some worshipers were at their various worship centers to receive the ash.

In some churches visited it was observed that worshipers as early as 6 Am were already present ready to receive the ash as a sign to have started the lent which is a forty days fasting and prayers period

This period according to the Parish Priest Saint Paul’s Catholic Church and the Dean Benin City Deanery Reverend Father Edwin Omorogbe and synold secretary, Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Edo, Delta Very Reverend, Prince Ukaegbu the day is very significant in the life of a Christian as it reminds man that without God man is as empty Ash.

Some worshipers who received the Ash on their for heads said the day means so much to them as Christians.

Ash Wednesday marks the first day of lent the time of reflection and penitence leading to Easter Sunday.
