NIHSA Attributes Flooding in Nigeria to poor Urban Planning

Flooding in Nigeria has been attributed to poor Urban Planning.
The disclosure was made today by the Director General of the  Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, NIHSA, John Ayoade Shamonda at a stakeholder meeting today in Abuja.
The Director General noted that there is no serious threat of flooding so far in the country in the year 2014.
The Minister of Water Resources Mrs Sarah Ochekpe who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Umaru Faruk said the meeting was convened to review the cases of flooding in the country.
She said the Federal Government is building additional Dams which will help in controlling water flows and boost Agriculture.
Director of River Basins across the country also gave account of the situation in their domains.
It would be recalled that flooding has remained a perennial problem in Nigeria, with the worst hit in 2012
