Ondo State House of Assembly has elected a new Speaker. He is Bamidele Oleyeloogun, while Ogundeji Ironju has emerged as the new Deputy Speaker of the House.
At a sitting of thirteen members at the floor of the House, the new Speaker Oleyelogun got nine votes to beat his rival, Olamide George, who got four votes.
The new Deputy Speaker, Ogundeji Ironju was unanimously elected by the thirteen members. The other thirteen lawmakers belonging to the faction of the impeached speaker, Jumoke Akindele however did not participate in the election as they have not returned to the house since the Assembly complex was reopened for legislative activities.
Ondo State Correspondent, Omorowa Jonah reports that the new Speaker and the Deputy have defected from the PDP to the ruling All Progressives Congress in the state.
The move according to the new Deputy Speaker, Ogundeji Ironju is to enable them deliver the dividends of democracy to members of their constituencies. According to him, more members from the PDP are expected to defect to the APC tomorrow at the floor of the house.
