Organized Labour in Edo state suspends mass rally following intervention of Benin monarch

Following a meeting between the Palace of the Oba of Benin, and leaders of the organized labour over the impasse between the organized labour and Edo State Government, the union leaders have agreed to suspend a mass rally scheduled to hold on Monday next week.

Kingsley Uchegub reports that the meeting, which was at the instance of the Benin monarch, was chaired by the Chairman, Peace and Conflict Resolution Committee, to the Obe Palace, Chief Eduwu Ekhator Obasogie, the Obasogie of Benin.
The meeting followed the peaceful protest by members of the organized labour to picket some government ministries which resulted in an attack on protesters by some unidentified youths at the palm house.
After a closed door session between representatives of the Benin Monarch and the organized labour, Chairman Peace and Conflict Resolution Committee to the Oba Palace Eduwu Ekhator Obasogie spoke on behalf of the Benin Monarch.
Responding on behalf of the organized labour, State chairman Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Emmanuel Ademokun and his trade union congress counterpart, comrade Charles Oronsaye appreciated the Benin Monarch for his intervention adding they would go back and notify their members on the development.
They also used the medium to suspend a mass rally of all workers in Edo state civil service scheduled to hold on Monday next week.
The strike by the organized labour entered its fourth day today.
