Protest over bad roads grind commercial activities in Evbareke and environs

Commercial activities at Textile Mill Road by Evbareke and Uwelu Motor Spare Parts Market Road by Ogida Market Junction, Benin City were completely grounded for hours on Monday following protest by traders, residents and drivers over alleged unmotorable nature of the roads. 

Wellington Akodeja reports that the protesters decried alleged Government’s negligence to the plights of the affected areas.

Drivers, Residents and traders on Uwelu Road Motor Spare Parts Market Junction by Ogida Market and New motor spare parts market Evbareke in a fit of anger expressing displeasure over the alleged deplorable condition of the roads.

Business activities around the protest sections were completely grounded for fear of the unknown to avoid looters carting away their wears, while fuel filling stations which serve as the commercial nerve centre in the area  are no longer in operations due to the poor state of the roads, as the entire stretch of the roads  are riddled with potholes or stargnaled water occasioned by the rain fall.

Some drivers along uwelu motor spare parts market alleged that business activities is at its lowest ebb due to the poor state of the roads.

The complaints were not different at Evbareke motor spare parts market by Textilemill road Benin City as the traders appealled to relevant Government agencies to come to their aid.

Reacting to the protest, Edo State Commissioner for Infrastructure, Engr. Abraham Aimiolemen said the state govt is not unmindful of the condition of the road and maintained that the state Govt has gotten designs of the affected flood areas to be able to channel it to the on going water projects at the end of the raining season where contractors will be mobilized to site .

It is the hopeful that Govt will match words with action to ameliorate the plight of the people.
