Residents cry out over abandonment of trade fair

The abandonment of Trade Fair Ground on Aerodrome Close by concerned authorities has become a source of concern to residents of the area.

The situation at the Trade Fair Ground was pathetic as grasses have taken over the premises thereby providing shelter for rodents of all types.

Investigations by the newscrew revealed that the premises is also serving as hideouts for hoodlums while some of the buildings are in a deplorable state begging for attention.

However, the newscrew observed renovation of some of the buildings which are currently ongoing and making it wear a new look.

Some shops were also observed to have been hired out to tenants by authority in charge apparently to help generate revenue to run the trade fair.

Some residents of the area who spoke to the newscrew while condemning the abandonment of the Trade Fair Ground said it is another way of government wasting resources.

They said there are several purposes the Trade Fair Ground can be used for if the government has high sight of the original aims and objectives of the facility.

They however maintained that the abandonment has adversely affected the area especially in terms of commercial gains.

Reacting to the abandonment, the President, Benin Chambers of Commerce said plans are already on the way to resuscitate the trade fair which has been slowed down because of logistics and internal lingering problem.

Attempt to get the views of the Edo State Commissioner of Commerce and Industry, MacDonald Obaseki proved abortive as he declined receiving the newscrew even though he was on seat.

Investigation by the newscrew however reveals that the declining might not be unconnected with the alleged failure of the Commissioner to visit the Trade Fair Ground since his assumption of office.
