Rotational presidency wouldn’t promote unity – Fashola

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has advised the National Assembly against the inclusion of rotational presidency in the proposed amendment of the 1999 Constitution.

The Governor gave the advice at a one day public hearing on the proposed amendment of the constitution organised by the Lagos State Government.

He said “rotational presidency would not promote the unity of the country, with not less than two hundred diverse ethnic groups, stressing that it is impossible to allow each of them a shot at the presidency under such arrangement”.

The Lagos State Governor said “occupying the office of the president should be based purely on merit”, emphasising that this would promote purposeful leadership and development in the country.
