The Senate today approved the report of the committee on local and foreign debts on the inclusion of Lagos State in the proposed pipeline projects under the 2012-2014 external borrowing plan.
Mover of the motion, Senator Eghigie Uzamere representing Edo South said when approved, the project will go a long way in improving infrastructural development, especially in the transport sector.
Other lawmakers lend their support to the borrowing plan.
Approving the borrowing plan in the committee of the whole, Senate President David Mark called on the Lagos State Government to ensure that funds released are judiciously utilized.
The scheme, according to the borrowing plan is to be implemented in three tranches of two hundred million dollars each by the Lagos State government.
Also at today’s plenary, President Goodluck Jonathan requested the consideration and approval of the 2014 budget proposal on the universal provision fund, as well as the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC.
This was contained in a letter signed by President Goodluck Jonathan and read by the senate president, David Mark on the floor of the senate.
The senate also considered the report of the committee on Niger Delta on the screening of Senator Bassey Ewa Henshaw as chairman of the NDDC, Bar. Bassey Dan-Abia, managing director Akwa Ibom, Hotenaan Henry Ogiri, Executive Director Finance & Admin Rivers, Tyoyo Omatsulu, Executive Director Projects Delta, among others.
