Senate to Investigate On-going Reforms in Police Force

The senate has decried the poor state of the Nigerian police force especially in the protection of lives and property in the country.
The senate, while attributing poor management of funding, attitude of policemen, poor managerial structure among others as a major factor hindering the police in the discharge of their duties, mandated its committee on police affairs to conduct a holistic investigation into the police reform programme.
In the past, funds have been earmarked to overhaul the Nigerian police force for effective and efficient service delivery especially the protection of lives and property.
Some of which include a takeoff grant of N78 billion amongst others appropriated in 2011, 2012 and 2013 budget to reform the price.
Despite the mass funding, the senate expressed displeasure over the failure of the police force in the discharge of its statutory duties.
Approving the resolution in the committee of the whole, senate president David Mark said the role of the Nigerian police in securing lives and property cannot be overemphasized.
The senate however mandated its committee on police affairs to conduct a holistic investigation into the reform programme.
