The Senate will tomorrow screen the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen.
The Senate President, Doctor Bukola Saraki, who disclosed this today, said the exercise will be conducted during plenary at eleven O’clock.
Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo sent the name of Justice Onnoghen to the Senate for confirmation as Chief Justice of Nigeria on February eight, just two days before the expiration of his three month acting tenure.
The National Judicial Council also extended Mr. Onnoghen’s acting tenure by another three months on the grounds that it may have been impossible for the Senate, which was on recess at the time, to reconvene and screen Justice Onnoghen before the expiration date of his tenure.
If confirmed by the upper legislative chamber, he would be the first CJN from the southern part of the country in about thirty years.
