Underground water extracted through borehole drilling and well construction is unfit for drinking unless duly treated says Mr. Ndubuisi Chikezie, a water technology specialist.
Chikezie, who is the Executive Director, Gold and Oak Integrated Limited, gave the warning while reacting to complain of particles and coloured water from dug water sources.
He spoke on the sidelines of the recently concluded Water Africa International Trade, Building and Construction Exhibition in Abuja.
He said that some water sources were unsafe for drinking either because they were not treated after extraction or have not been regularly treated.
Chikezie further explained that access to safe water should not stop at the extraction stage but should be followed through with treatment.
He said that water treatment would make it wholesome and safe for drinking.
“If you dig a borehole and start drinking, you are doing it at your own peril.
“A sample of that water if subjected to comprehensive analysis, will show some dangerous composite ingredients.
“It is fool hardy to say that you just dug a borehole and then start drinking and even bathing with it.
