SSS cautions journalists on security consciousness

The State Security Service, (SSS) has advised Journalists in Edo State to be security conscious in the course of carrying out their duties.

Edo state director of SSS, Mr. Bello Tukur Bakari said the interactive session was organized to sensitize journalists on the need to attach great importance to security both at their places of work and the home front.

Mr. Bakari said this became necessary in view of the threat journalists face in the course of their job. The security boss harped on the need for media practitioners to collaborate with the SSS in the task of providing security in the society, emphasizing that effective security is a collective responsibility of relevant organs of government and the citizenry.

While assuring that the SSS has put necessary machinery in place to provide security for media houses in line with a directive from the presidency,  Mr. Bakari advised media house to also put in place potent internal security arrangements.

The SSS boss also advised media houses to make professionalism their watch word, as they report political activities as Edo State prepares to conduct the governorship election in July this year.

The interactive session held today in Benin City was attended by the top management of media houses both electronic and print, including the General Manager of Independent Television/Radio, Elder Ogbeide Uwumwonse.
