Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, University of Benin Chapter have officially resumed for duties forty-eight hours after the suspension of the over one month old strike by the union.
Although teaching and learning were yet to commence at the University of Benin due to the holiday, the chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, University of Benin branch, Professor Julius Iyasele said arising from its Congress, members of the union have been directed to resume with immediate effect in line with the instruction of the National leadership of ASUU who conditionally suspended the strike.
It was gathered at the time of this report that the National Leadership of the Non-Academic Staff Union was holding a meeting with the federal government aimed at ending its strike.
Chairman of NASU, University of Benin, Comrade Joel Idonye and his NAAT counterpart Onyeabor Nwabah who said the unions are on strike noted that ASUU cannot do without the Non-Academic staff.
The Public Relation Officer, Student Union Government, UNIBEN, Ehiabhi Goodness expressed joy that ASUU has suspended the strike.
