United States Government Expresses Concern Over Vote-Buying, Intimidation Of Voters During Edo State Governorship Election

The United States Government has expressed concern over recorded cases of vote-buying and intimidation of voters and observers during last Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State.
 
The US government in a statement today by the United States Mission in Nigeria, also applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission, and security agencies on the positive role they played in the election.
 
According to the statement posted on its verified twitter handle,
The US government recognized the critical role of Governor Godwin Obaseki of the People’s Democratic Party and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress during the exercise.
 
The United States said it will continue to encourage stakeholders, including INEC, political parties, and the security agencies to improve the electoral process in the forthcoming Ondo State governorship election.
 
It pointed out that as a democratic partner of Nigeria, the United States promised remain committed to working with the country to achieve mutual goals of peace and prosperity for the citizens of both countries
